TYGAPAW

Born in Jamaica as Dion McKenzie and now known as TYGAPAW (Together You Gather All Power Applied Worldwide), this Brooklyn-based artist is a producer, DJ, and label owner who has spent a decade amplifying the sounds of the Black electronic music diaspora, blending dancehall roots with Detroit techno influences. Since 2014, TYGAPAW has actively cultivated inclusive spaces for queer people of color through their club night and label, Fake Accent, demonstrating a deep commitment to uplifting marginalized communities evident in early works like “Handle With Care” and “Get Free,” which weave narratives of queer immigrant life and Black communal joy. Their innovative approach to electronic music, recognized by Berlin’s Tresor and showcased in their techno opera “Devil Woman,” culminated in their 2023 album “love has never been a popular movement,” a hardware-produced, vocally prominent exploration of self-love and trans identity.
