Statement April 2020

Dear  WHOLE Community,

Unfortunately, the severity of the current pandemic has forced us to cancel this year’s festival. We considered postponing to 2021, but it’s still too early to know if we will be able to organize then, or what that might look like. We don’t want to make any promises that we can’t keep. A refund form has been sent to all ticket holders, which should be filled out by May 08, 2020. We’re asking everyone to consider donating 25% of each ticket in order to help us cover our funding gap, should you be in a position to do so. If for some reason you have not received this form, no problem, shoot us an email:

Globally we are all experiencing very dire, unknown financial circumstances, but the hard reality is that we must raise €100k to keep WHOLE alive. Even without hosting this year’s event, we’ve incurred unrecoverable production costs, and we’d like to compensate our staff for their work. We carry significant debts from our developing years; none of our previous editions have broken even. There is no corporate investment or major sponsors: ticket sales fund everything we do, everything that WHOLE is, is thanks to you. A major act of solidarity from our community is the only thing that will ensure the survival of WHOLE in these uncertain times.

We’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign so that those who have yet to purchase a ticket can also help out, ensuring the longevity of this project. As queer people, rarely do we get to experience such a pure place of radical acceptance without anxiety or fear. WHOLE is one of the very few queer camping festivals in the world. Losing this supportive space would be a major loss for our community, impacting the collectives who’ve dedicated countless hours to its development, and the artists & audience members that rely on it as a nurturing, creative environment. If you’re inclined to spread the word & share, please do!

We are so grateful. Be well & stay creative!
